Tonight in Seattle:

Unscrew the Croc Employees benefit: tell us about it

I really really really wanted to be at the TIG-sponsored Unscrew the Crocodile Employees benefit at Chop Suey last night! But as I'm nine months preggo and set to pop *any moment* I wasn't able to make it. Sadness!

I've been reading Line Out's fabulous write-up of the event. Sounds like it was huge rock and roll fun! Anyone have any entertaining anecdotes to share from the evening? This homebound imaginary girl could use a vicarious thrill...

I was torn.. Wu Tang Clan whom ive dreamed of seeing/shooting since 9th grade. Or the most amazing singer/songwriter northwest lineup i could dream up. Wu Tang was amazing... but I saw Sarah Joanns Photos/Summary and i heard it was GREAT.

One photo of hers pictures J Tillman/Robin of Fleet Foxes harmonizing/David Baazan on drums. WOW

Bazan played drums twice that night! Once with Jurado and once with J. Tillman and Robin Pecknold - meaning all three who played the Croc's last show shared one stage.

Tillman, Bazan, Pecknold

OMG, that sounds amazing!! Sarah, where can we see more of your photos? Or better still... want to post another blog post with 'em? ;)

Playing violin with J Tillman and Robin Peckhold --- Bob Dylan's 'Oh Sister'.. it was dreamy.. :) They are dreamy..

Didn't know where to say it, but Happy Imaginary New Year!

I've been looking for the name of the last song that Robin performed. It was a cover song, I believe he said it was originally performed by a woman named Katie _ ??? Anyone have the name of that song?

The song was a folk song called "Katie Cruel." Robin Pecknold said he was going by a version by Karen Dalton. Here's a link:

I thought it was AMAZING - and I'm so glad I went. I will miss the Croc more than I can ever express, and it was great to see so many people who felt the same way.

Despite the amount of noise (I admit, the noise level during Damien Jurado was the most distressing, as I could barely hear him sing - being smashed in the back of the room), I enjoyed seeing all the bands play and tell little stories about the Croc, and thanking Jim for being the best sound guy in Seattle.

Highlights for me: The Pleasureboaters (the lead's voice does not seem like it should be coming out of that body, and I was NOT expecting to be ROCKED like I was!), The Long Winters, and my favorite - Dave and Matt from Aqueduct, especially Dave's heartfelt goodbye the Croc, and their last song (a cover, but I'm an idiot and can't remember who did the original...too much Stoli!).

All in all, I'd say it was a success. BIG Props to Pete, Chrispy, Jenny George, and all the others who put it together and worked it!

The song that Dave and Matt (and Carly from the Catch/USE) played (at the very end) was "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce, which seemed fitting to me.

* My new slogan: Imaginary ChrisB: Slumming in Top 40 so you don't have to. :] Maybe I can get that printed on business cards.

Oh Chris @ 9 -- that's an awesome slogan. I love the 2008 ChrisB!

@2 Sarah, the picture of those two guys is great! If I were a girly girl I'd be picturing them in tight pink underpants and feeling myself up!

OMG ChrisB -- that is a brilliant slogan! You should totally get t-shirts made!!

Ahem.

Did someone say "Get shirts made"?

I'm all for getting t-shirts made, but I should warn you that I already own one t-shirt that I know of no appropriate time or place to wear it. :-|
