Tonight in Seattle:

It's going to be a great day

I awoke extra early this morning, unsure why I was alert and out of bed. But now I know it was all with a purpose, as John in the Morning has played not one, not two, but THREE of my all-time favorite romantic pop songs (in order of appearance) this morning:

"When My Boy Walks Down the Street" by the Magnetic Fields

"Supernova" by Liz Phair

"The Perfect Girl" by the Cure

And it's only 7:25a! The sun is barely up, and already, I'm beaming. Add to this fact that igLiz has returned to the 206 as of late last night from her Thanksgiving holiday away, and I am one happy camper today.

How about all of you? What three songs could KEXP play that would make YOUR days a bit brighter?

Addendum: now playing -- "And the Calendar Hung Itself" by Bright Eyes. Which means Liz is gonna have a great day too!

WOW! That is a great sign!

At the moment, I think these are my three songs:

1. Mistress (piano version), Red House Painters
2. Cuts You Up, by Peter Murphy
3. Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo, by HD

Hearing those three songs in that order would probably be a good indicator that it'll be an entertaining day.

Funnily enough, I had a similar thing happen yesterday. I was kind of bummed about being back at work after such a nice long weekend. Then I got to my desk, and turned on KEXP. John in the Morning was playing Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks! To make it even better The first song that he played after back announcing the previous set was "Little Round Mirrors" by Harvey Danger. It's amazing how exciting a song that you've heard too many times to count can sound just because someone else is playing it on the radio.

Well said!!

It's not quite the same, but once I was lost in Bellevue (I get lost there all the time!) I was alone, and cold and sick and was about to cry, but then "Keep it Together" by Aqueduct came up on shuffle, and I was like, Yeah, I'll keep it together.

I've been in situations like that Kiku. So sorry you had to go through that, but it is neat when the right song comes on at just the right moment huh?

Also, thanks Dana!

Dana and Kiku have the right idea as to what makes the radio so special - and necessary.

If you're feeling alone, the right song means that there are at least two other people with you at that given moment - the DJ who picked that song at that exact moment and the artist who wrote that song.

Aw you guys, this blog is making me all sentamental!
