Tonight in Seattle:

Another reason to love your vinyl

One of the best reasons to keeping loving vinyl in the 21st century is the big, gorgeous covers. I'm thinking the Menomena Friend and Foe kind of covers; the Architecture in Helsiki Places Like This kind of covers. They're the covers that you want to hang on your wall and keep staring at, even if it means you can't actually listen to the record.

But some bands lack creativity, and have excess ego. This is when you get giant cover shots of the singer/songwriter's face in soft lighting. Not something you really want to hang on your wall. But now there's a way to make those headshot covers into art as well!

It's called Sleevefacing, and it's defined as "one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion." It's easier to show than tell:

You can do it with all kinds of artists! The classics like Bob Dylan:

Dylan Sleeveface

Or more recent ones like Madonna:

My personal favorite though, is Barbra Streisand:

Streisand Sleeveface

I'm tempted to make my own...which album would you use?

Post YOUR fav Sleevefaces! (max width of 490 pix please - otherwise the comments section freaks out).

this might be the funniest blog post EVER.
