2008 EMP Sound Off winners New Faces sign to Loveless Records

Seattle's youthful darlings New Faces have signed a deal with Loveless Records to release their first record, which has already been recorded and will be release sometime this summer (we hope!).

If you have not had a chance to catch them at a local venue then you better hurry up and check your schedule because before you know it they will only be coming back to Seattle a couple times a year. I'm personally excited to watch them grow and evolve into a great touring rock band. It make me happy inside to see a group of high school friends take the next step on this journey.

Check out TIG Sparkly Indie-Pop Photos for those fresh New Faces and their new press photos too. More New Faces!

Also see the New Faces MySpace page for upcoming shows.

This is a very interesting development, due to the fact that when I interviewed them for KEXP, they gave no impression they were going to be doing anything huge. In fact, direct from the interview:

Any big plans to cross the water and move to Seattle now?

Kyle and Conor are high school juniors, so moving to Seattle is out of the question until they graduate. However, I’m a senior this year and I’m moving to Seattle in the fall, where I’ll study Journalism. How we keep the band together is another story, but trust me, we’ll still play shows. School has always been an obstacle but not a roadblock, and that won’t change.

While we're in New Faces land on the Imaginary Blog, here is the full interview if you are interested:

Here's the official press release:

Loveless Records Signs Local Favorite New Faces!

Loveless Records is proud to announce New Faces as the newest (and youngest!) members of the Loveless family.

Just a short ferry ride from Seattle, in the small town of Port Townsend, big things are happening. Three teenagers, lead singer/guitarist Nico Janssen (18), bassist Kyle Hove (17) and drummer Conor Sisk (16), make up the band New Faces, who have stepped into the scene impressing critics with their considerable musical talents.

But don’t let their ages fool you. Their sound has the undeniable maturity of veteran musicians. This is in large part due to their clever lyrics, unique rhythms, and Nico’s, deeper ranged vocals.

When New Faces became the winners of the 2008 Sound Off! competition, the Experience Music Project's 21-and-under battle-of-the-bands , they made a name for themselves on the Seattle music front.

Seattle P-I writer Athima Chansanchai said this about the New Faces performance after they won.
“Some bands you see for the first time and realize they're going to be big some day”

During the final round of Sound Off!, the CW's Underground created a documentary of the four finalists. Here is the New Faces documentary, before they won the entire competition.

Riding the wave of success after Sound Off!, New Faces landed performances at Seattle’s biggest summer music festivals – Bumbershoot and The Capitol Hill Block Party.

Their debut album “Two Years” is due out on Loveless Records on August 26th. Summer tour dates are listed below with more with more to be announced.
