Chop Suey sold
Submitted by ChrisB on June 23, 2008.
Woah.
Now here's an interesting story.
Seattle Weekly's Hannah Levin has quite the scoop this morning on Reverb:
I ran into Chop Suey booking agent Pete Greenberg last night, and he informed me that the club he's been booking for less than a year has already been sold to an unnamed Japanese company. There is no word yet on the future status of either Greenberg's job or the club's current live music format.
Anyone have any ideas what this will mean, good or bad? Rumors?

What?!
This better just be a change of hands and not a change of everything else.

seriously. it's been the best place in seattle the last few months. hell, this week alone i'll probably go there three times. that doesn't sound like i have a drinking problem or anything does it? hmmmmm...i'm crossing my fingers for CS.

Dude, this must have JUST happened, as I was hanging with Pete until about 4p yesterday. Suckage!!
I'm starting to suspect it's a TIG thing -- you may recall the Croc closed down only days before our holiday party, and now this happens to Chop Suey days before our birthday bash?
Bleh.

I just got an email from Chop Suey called "Changing of Chop Suey" and it reads:
K's Dream, a nightclub based in Chiba City, Japan, is in the process of acquiring Seattle nightclub Chop Suey. Bookings and staff will remain the same. More info to come as everything becomes solidified.
So I guess it's official...

The "K's Dream" website (containing a mix of English and Japanese) is already referencing Chop Suey on their main page: "K'S DREAM SEATTLE OPEN! JULY.01.2008"

Gasp... are they going to change the name to K's Dream Seattle? Will the back room be converted to rentable karaoke booths?
I wonder if these folks ever put a bid in for the Crocodile. Or if they think this is the Crocodile? Or actually, they're big Pete Greenberg fans and they're just following him around trying to purchase his soul?

Huh. the K's Dream site also had three "BBS" areas. BBS: as in bulletin board service, which is a pre-internet (aka pre-historic) discussion forum, typically requiring direct dial access via a modem.
Are they tongue-in-cheek hip? Or is that a bad "engrish" translation?

This is such a downer for me. I can only speculate, but its not happy speculation.
