Hey! Throw Me the Statue Will Ya, Huey Lewis?
Submitted by Jeanine Anderson on June 27, 2008.Seattle-based buzz group Throw Me the Statue covers Huey Lewis' "If This is It" with their indie-pop dancy vibe. You can download it free from Stereogum.
The track is for the Are you still with me?! A Tribute to Huey Lewis and the News compilation, planned for release sometime in 2008. Other contributors include My Brightest Diamond, Panda & Angel, The Long Winters (another local!), Menomena, and Apostle of Hustle.
Bah! Enough about the tribute: take yourself to MySpace if you want to know more.
I'd much rather wrap this up stating how boy-next-door charming these TMTS guys are and how fab they sounded last night at the Exile in {Imaginary} Girlville show. Nice!

@Cory-I just had a strange 'American Psycho' flashback. Where's my axe?

You know what? I'm going to admit a deep, dark secret to you fine people. I love Huey Lewis.
Yeah, the videos from back in the day when Sports came out are pretty campy now, but the man and The News have a special kind of bar-rock. Plus, big points for a guy who can rock the harmonica. And while I'm bringing shame to my family on the Internet, I'll go one step further: I sing -- out loud -- if I ever hear "Heart Of Rock 'n Roll" on the radio. This happens much more in the Midwest than The Emerald City.
As for TMTS's cover, I dig it. It's a laid-back interpretation, and it fits really well. I'd love to hear what John Roderick does for the album.
