I still beam with pride at the critic acclaim earned by Portland trio Menomena. They've amassed such a big time following that they're playing the sweet Moore Theater this Friday (9/19) with fellow critic darlings The National. More than that, the show is a benefit for the National Cooperative Grocers Association.
I'm sure with quotes like “The first great indie rock record of the new year” from Pitchfork (about their debut album Friend and Foe), I don't need to convince you that the show is going to rock.
But if you want an added incentive to head downtown this Friday night, all proceeds from ticket sales will help the Cooperative Disaster Relief Fund, specifically to benefit Midwest farmers impacted by the recent floods.
Here's some neat footage from their time in Juan's Basement (yay for the woodwind!):

Man, I wish I could go to this. I haven't seen Menomena in wayyy too long. A little correction, though: Friend and Foe is their second album.

Oh dang - I know that -- I can't belive I was *thinking* "first album on Barsuk" and typed "debut album" -- grr. That cover art for I Am The Fun Blame Monster is still one of my favs ever.

Yeah, I figured it must have been something like that . . .
I love the IATFBM art, too. I'm very proud to own one of (I think) the first edition.
