Tonight in Seattle:

Sasquatch Day 2: Check-in

The heat and the glaring sun has been getting to me, so I ended up missing Calexico to stay longer at camp under the sweet shade.  Boo!

St. Vincent however, was stellar. Her voice just as sweet as on her records, huge white frame sunglasses beaming out to the far reaches of the crowd. Although a more private venue would be ideal to appreciate the slightness of St. Vincent, her voice carried remarkably well and was pleasantly reverberated outwards.

The Wrens debuted two new songs during their set and even though the bass went out early on and the sound was only "meh" they pulled off a rocker.  I've seen this band three times and expect nothing less!

Murder City Devils are as brutal as always. Throwing out mysoginist slurs and touting "when I used to go to shows it was only faggots!", they were doomed to offend some but the crowd seemed remarkably unphased. Perhaps knowledge of their antics is widespread and accepted as just that?

Day two down, sunburn in three places now. I'm shooting for five tomorrow!

I spoke with a lady at the grocery store yesterday about the fest (she overheard me talking to someone about Sasquatch) and she had just gotten back from there. She was all kinda sunburned but a glow as she went off about how great it was.

I can't wait to hear what Day 3 was like!

No misogyny from the MCDers! That is why the crowd seemed unphased. They were saying that they themselves were the "faggots" that all the meatheads in the audience used to pick on when they were growing up. Fantastic show! What a spectacle.

Also, what I think that you thought was a misogynist slur was when he was talking to the high school kids and saying, "Faggots love yourselves! You are beautiful! And that goes to all of you ladies too- Ladies love yourselves! Not these jock assholes who just want to fuck you!" Then he proceeded to dedicate the set to all of the faggots, misfits and queers, etc. People looked really confused, so I don't think they could understand him- which is funny because from where I was standing, he was the only thing I could hear. And it was celebratory!
