Mates of State: a sonnet

Show Date: September 12, 2002

Last Friday night Graceland, those Mates of State
Beamed gems of love, rang thru their eyes and song.
Whilst melodies made us adore and long.
Which first: their ardor, or songs so great?
We wondered, as their music did so sate.
With voices clear and harmonies inspired,
Husband, wife played to our shared delight.
Charm flowed giddy melodies on this date;
Joyous tunes rang of possibility.
"And where's my prize?" Hope pinned to a piqued heart.
"What if the sun is right?" he drummed so true.
Her glow clanged keys, expression played as art:
"Whatever it takes, I will supply you."
"What if desire is truth?" Wait and see.
