Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

One of the records I've been anticipating most this year is Fantasies, the forthcoming album from Metric (and their first in four years).

It was recorded at Bear Creek Studios, just outside of Seattle and is being released on April 14. The band is self-releasing the album in US and Europe (and putting it out through their label, Last Gang, in their home of Canada). In between now and then, you can preorder the album through the band's website, ilovemetric.com, and be sure to download the acoustic version of their single "Help I'm Alive" while you're there.

So far, my favorite song on the album is "Gimme Sympathy" (before it was fully realized it was "The Hooks", when I saw the band back in 2007), which I spent a good chunk of my afternoon listening to on repeat. They had just released a video to it this week and I'll post it below. The guitar parts work great with Emily Haines' harmonies and when she asks "Who would you rather be, The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?" you want to give whatever answer she wants.
