Talking shit about two Modest Mouse shows

Modest MouseEveryone is in a twitter about Modest Mouse, quite possibly the world's most famous band from Issaquah, WA, as they've finally dropped their long-awaited release, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. We're gonna have that review posted any day now {ahem, Joseph Riippi, I'm looking at YOU!!}.

The band celebrated the released with a couple of Northwest performances, and we were lucky to get a couple of imaginary write-ups from the shows (and one very blurry photo, thanks to over-the-top security at the Seattle show):

  • Portland: Cal Ledbetter's drunken disco-dance extravaganza at the Crystal Ballroom
  • Seattle: Stella's giddy superfan experience with the legendary Johnny Marr and the fellas from her hometown at the South Lake Union Naval Center

Both reviews are great reads, but if you're wondering who had the better time, my money's on Cal.

Anyone else catch Modest Mouse? Or have an opinion of the new record? Share it in the comments below, if you're so inclined...

I think the new Modest Mouse single sounds like what Franz Ferdinand would sound like - if Franz Ferdinand SUCKED!

(Very nice job on both reviews though.)

Oh, Seratonein. I'm not even going to dignify that with a response.

Oh wait, I just did. :)

I would love to sound off about Modeest Mouse and the show last night 04/15. This was my 4th time seeing these guys and the first time I saw them in their home state. I was surprised they didn't say one thing about being here. In fact, there was very little audience interaction what so ever. The most disappointing thing by far was their rendition of their own past hit "Tiny cities made of Ashes". Usually a crown pleaser and was being requested via screaming during interludes throughout the evening. When they finally played it, I was shocked. Not only did they appear to forget the lyrics to their own song, the 6 words he did sing sounded mis-dubbed and off key. It was terrible and left me with a bad taste in my mouth although the rest of the show was decent. If they have no home pride, WA should quit supporting them. They can go back to their new lives in Los Angeles and pretend as they are that they've neever been here before. (IMHO, of course)

Doesn't Isaac live in Cottage Grove or Grants Pass, Oregon anyway? Damn Oregon lifestyle!

Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes was terrible, no one would disagree with that. For being at the Paramount it was not that bad. Last live band I saw there was Sonic Youth and they have come a long way since then. For your info, MM is not the band that gets big and moves to LA. Issac lives in Portland and I believe Eric and Jeremiah still live in Seattle. I don't really know about anyone else (assuming Marr lives in UK still).
I got to see these guys during the early days, many times, somewhere between 10-20 times if not more. It was always a mystery about what kind of show you were going to get. Back then at least you could "talk" to them about it. I had not seen them live in about 7 years at least and I was just thrilled to have the chance even if it was at the Paramount. I am a Washington native and I will always support genius from this state. There may not have been quality audience/MM interaction, but the Pacific Northwest is so a part of MM that it will never go away and it will always speak to me deeper then anything else. Now if they would have had a big bio-diesel sign on the side of those gross buses, that would have been true PNW style.

It's more like Franz Ferdinand sounds like Modest Mouse. Even the name is a rip off.
