Fests are upon us: Part 1: Georgetown Music Festival

Georgetown Music FestivalSummertime in Seattle means nothing if not music festivals. While Bumbershoot and the Capitol Hill Block Party have grown to astronomical (read as: huge touring bands) proportions, The Georgetown Music Festival is keeping it local as can be, with a preliminary lineup of loads of Seattle- (and a few Portland) based bands prepared to rock South Seattle this June 2-3. Here's the preliminary list from their MySpace page:

Then don't go. There are bands I am looking forward to seeing and I don't need your big head blocking my view.

I'm not familiar with all of these bands but I do know that Lillydale, Hypatia Lake, Central Services, Idiot Pilot and Bre Louglin are all awful! Based on those stinkers this festival does not look pretty.

AWESOME lineup! I'd go for The Trucks, Lillydale, and The Hands alone. Plus, it's dedicated to being local. It's in the best neighborhood in Seattle, you'll buy your ticket from someone's little kid working the ticket booth, the beer is cheap, and the food is homemade. GMF is one of the nicest events all summer long. And these bands don't consider GMF some anonymous stop on a homogenous nationwide tour... they are our neighbors, they are our friends, most of them are excellent musicians, and they're going to put so much love into their sets that weekend. Don't be so mean, everybody.

Gem,
Have you actually sat through a Bre Louglin set? I dare your ears not to bleed!

C'mon now folks. The Georgetown Music Festival is the only one of its size that keeps things local and, while of course every band on their isn't going to appeal to everyone, there's some damn fine budding talent on that list, the ticket prices are usually super affordable, and it's a great way to explore a bunch of new and (mostly) unknown local bands in town. Which is one of our most favorite imaginary things to do.

Topping my personal picks (tho I must confess I haven't even heard all these bands yet): Dept of Energy, The Trucks, Young Sportsmen, BOAT, The Hands, Iceage Cobra, Spook the Horse, and Tiny Vipers are gonna sounds fantabulous in the sunshine.

I don't know, but I'm curious about the Kindness Kind, Pink Snowflakes, and Hungry Pines (love the name).

I love me a good time in the South end!

I think this festival looks wonderful. Coho, H is For Hellgate, Hypatia Lake and Spook the Horse are all amazing local talent. It may be a bit suspect that there’s no Speaker Speaker, Juhu Beach, Siberian, The Lights or The Cops (And no Hip-Hop?!!) but maybe those bands were invited but could not make it?
