Don't We Always Discuss the NME on Thursdays?
Submitted by ChrisB on May 31, 2007.In keeping with the tradition of "NME Thursday", The Gossip's Beth Ditto is on the cover of the New Music Express this week - naked. I think she's hot hot heat, but what does everyone else think?
Since I'm not sure if this is safe for work (it shouldn't set off any warnings and is probably PG-13 but might be difficult to explain if your boss comes up behind you), you can click here.

Ok, now I'm all for people being comfortable with who they are, but I feel that society, atleast in the UK, is starting to react in the wrong way to this. This occurred to me whilst watching the launch of Big Brother last night. 12 girls went into the house, 9 of a skinny-to-normal weight, 2 of a larger frame and one who was very much a raver/festival girl. The promotion videos for the skinny girls portrayed them in a very negative light, picking up on their more shallow characteristics, while the other 3 had their promo's all full of idealism, very biased. Now what this says to me is that, after the fall of Kate Moss, the British media is trying to spread the idea that people who are happy with how they look must be better people, whilst anyone who looks like they're trying too hard must be put down. Is this sort of thing happening in the States these days?

Whoa. Sounds like the British media is way ahead of the U.S. media. I don't think we've accepted our flaws as a society yet, and I definitely don't think the reality shows are going to start picking larger women anytime soon. But don't people always go too far when trying to prove themselves unprejudiced? Like my roommate, who thinks he's not a racist or homophobe because he knows people of other races and orientations, yet he makes off-color racist and homophobic comments all the time? And when I call him on it he's always like, Don't get me wrong, I have [gay/Asian/black/whatever] friends — but I hate [gays/Asians/blacks/whatever].
When we have gay/straight/black/white/jewish/asian/fat/skinny/brown/short/tall/one-legged/etc. celebrities and idols and we don't actually make note of these things about them, or care, that's when I'll be psyched.
Sidenote: Liz Riley is a big fat cow.
No I'm kidding! It's a private joke.

Hey, and now Corky Love says that it is one of the greatest covers ever!

Go Beth. I really admire her, even if I'm still kind meh about The Gossip's music. This cover is already on my MySpace under the 'heroes' section. (Not my Betsy MySpace, though.)
