It IS a slow TIG day.....
Submitted by Tim Hanken on June 4, 2007....so here's a story for you. I haven't been to the record store in about two weeks and I went yesterday and spent $75 on randomness that I may not have bought had I not been going through record store withdrawals. I bought CD's I had only casually considered buying just because I was in a flurry of CD buying madness.
No regrets so far but I haven't listened to most of it yet either. Does this ever happen to you? I did get Riot is an Empty Street by Kings of Convenience for $7.99 used so that's pretty solid. I had no idea I liked them so much.

Along with the Kings of Convenience I picked up the following:
Motor "Unhuman"
Their last record was the best serious electronic/house record I've bought in a long time. I'm sure this one will be good too.
Ghostland Observatory "Paparazzi Lighting".
This gadget cost me $15 but they were so good at Sasquatch I bit the bullet and shelled out the dough.
The National "The Boxer"
Eh. I listened to this last night and I'm not sold. I don't dig these "woe is me" type bands. The whole thing just kind of sounds depressing.
Okkervil River "Down the River of Golden Dreams"
$6.99 used. Who sells this stuff? They actually had two copies of this album.
Easy Dread All Stars "Radiodread"
It was only a matter of time before I bought the reggae Radiohead cover album. I'm sure I'll get my eight bucks out of it.
Electrelane "No Shouts, No Calls"
I could barely hear them at Sasquatch while wasting my time watching whatever it was I was watching. Sounded good so I picked up this album. I like it so far and it came with a cool patch!

heh, i usually drop ~$75-200 every time i walk in sonic boom/easy street, depending on how long it's been & what's been released. i just keep a running excel spreadsheet of stuff i want or will consider. yeah, the impulse to buy *something* happens pretty often, too.
end of may haul - rufus wainwright, the national, voxtrot, stars (remix album), eagle seagull, charlotte gainesbourg, mary timony, and an older viva voce album.
as for the national, i may be one of the few who thinks "sad stars for dirty lovers" was better than "alligator", but "the boxer" is a pretty good continuation of what they've been doing while adding back a bit more rock. sad bastard music will always have a place in my heart :)
one of my happiest sasquatch moments was realizing i could find a way to avoid both ghostland observatory & citizen cope at the same time. it didn't really matter who was on that third stage, but bonus, i got to see visqueen!

i have to admit that yesterday i spent $9.99 at Rasputin for the Horrors album. this might explain my absence yesterday as i was in Oakland making my pilgrimage to see the Red Sox (who decided to lose in extra innings ... bah!)

I say give Boxer a few more listens, and a bit of time to grow. It's probably my second-favorite release of the year, but it certainly didn't grab me at first either. Now I can't get it out of my head!

Dude. If it's such a slow day, surely you have time to share all the deets about which CDs you bought in your flurry? Spill it!
