Ireland's answer to Bright Eyes

"Ireland's answer to Bright Eyes" NME

The above headline arrived in my inbox a few weeks ago and it made me so nervous I archived it with the intention of researching it (and the artist) when I had a moment.

The moment is here - perfect timing to since the fellow in question, our guy Fionn Regan, is going to be at the Sunset tonight!

From from I've heard and seen via my crappy YouTube connection, he's no Conor Oberst (but truthfully, who is?). But he has piqued my interest. The songs are slight and pretty and kindly channel Nick Drake... and I wish I could go see him tonight (alas, previous not-so-musical plans prevail).

Who's going? Who wants to tell us all about it?

Here's some interesting YouTub-age for his song "Be Good or Be Gone":

He also did an in-studio at KEXP yesterday at noon, which should be available for streaming now.

Yeah, I listened to some of his stuff after he was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, but he seems like a poor man's Jose Gonzalez or a broke man's Bright Eyes. Maybe I need to listen more, but I wasn't too impressed. Quiet, lilting and melodic but not much else.

I like the video. And the song, slight as it is. I fully expect to hear this Fionn fella during the introspective moment of some as-yet-unreleased indie film soundtrack.

The press line petrified me too Liz, but the album they sent me has become much beloved. His KEXP In-studio sounded beautiful, so I'll be there tonight... enjoying the slightness of it all.
