Sneaker Pimps at the Showbox? It's not the band...
Submitted by elle on August 6, 2007.Don't you just hate mistaking an advertisement? Noticing a flyer for the Showbox announcing the Sneaker Pimps on August 17th, I quickly went to the venue's website to check it out. I mean, the band hasn't put out an album or done anything for years.
Alas, it's not the electro-pop band who brought us "6 Underground" but instead a touring exhibition touted as "The World's Largest Sneaker Display." And the featured music is actually MF Doom, the rapper who wears a mask and has colloraborated on many projects [including DangerDoom, who's other half is now part of Gnarls Barkley.]
So, if you were thinking there was going to be some pop down at the Showbox on August 17th, be forewarned it's actually a hip-hop/DJ show with a showcase of shoes.

The Beastie Boys used to have a couple of friends who were shoe collectors. These guys would bring The Beasties all the hottest new kicks back in the late 80s/early 90s. The Boys eventually christened these connoisseurs of kicks, "The Sneaker Pimps". The band known as The Sneaker Pimps admittedly took their name from the shoe collectors. True story.

Yay! It worked! I just wanted Char to confess her true feelings for me. I'm glad it's all mutual.

Reminder -- this show tonight at the Showbox is NOT actually the Sneaker Pimps. So if you're a fan and want to see the band, don't go and be disappointed. If you're looking for fancy new footwear, however, you SHOULD go. Uh huh.
