For those of you who love your gadgets (like I do), Apple has release the iPod Touch ... which is more or less an iPhone without all the phone nonsense. It has a nice big(ger) screen and is wifi-enabled, which is nifty. The sad/dumb thing is the storage size, only 8GB and 16GB, but the price is much less than an iPhone if you want a pretty widescreen handheld gizmo.
Of course, the even stranger thing is that they now have video on the iPod Nano. Itty-bitty video.

Is it weird that I am contemplating getting one of these before getting an iPhone? Does anyone know if there's a monthly charge for internet access?
Any bets on when the iTouch that has a ton more GB space is going to be available... I think I'll end up holding out for one of those (and for the price to drop $100 or so).

iTouch myself!!!!! Hee!
They also lowered the price of the iPhone by 200 bones, or clams, or whatever.
Damn you Apple! (I still love you)

OK - I just found out you need to be in a wi-fi hotspot to get use of the internet option. So it is just like carrying around a mini laptop -- very interesting.

I wonder what sort of reception the wifi part gets on such a low-power and small device. I would imagine it devours the battery life too ...

Wait wait? The iPhone came down $200 in price, for reals?? Wow. That is getting really tempting!

let me look into this a bit

hmm. Well the Iphone makes more sense. In that.. if you want to use internet.. you need service. relying on Wi-fi alone is tricky. Although wi-fi hot spots are increasing. In terms of screen size.. they're the same. 3.5 wide screen. The iphone has a 480-320 160 dpi while the regualr one has 480-320 163 ppi. Many companies use ppi and dpi interchangably when they shouldn't. Either way there is some diffrence in resolution.. so perhaps seeing them at the apple store first would be wise. and the nano.. it's just plain ugly. honestly... it looks like a 70's tv with a very small amount of memory and the user ending with squinting eyes. just saying :D

So I'm guessing this means the itouch uses a flash hard drive? So while they're smaller in storage size, I'm guessing the wi-fi drain is counterbalanced by the lack of drain from a constantly cycling disk.
I can't believe no one's mentioned the incredibly unneccesary 160gb ipod classic that's now out.

160GB iPod unnecessary? I think it is totally necessary. And awesome.

160GB would hold a whole lotta movies!

CNN is reporting that if you bought an iPhone early on, Apple might give you a $100 credit now that they slashed prices...

I want a 160 GB iPhone. Is that too much to ask? I also want it to glow in the dark and smell like rosemary.

That would be the best iPhone/Pod ever. The iSpice. Brilliant.

Mmm, what if you could change the spice to match the song? Cardamom with Magnetic Fields, Sage with Arthur & Yu, Vanilla for Cloud Cult?
Then I want it to bake me a cake.

THERE iS NO MONTHlY iNTERNET FEE FOR THE iTOUCH iF ANYONE iS WONDERiNG.
i WENT TO THE APPlE STORE AND i OVER HEARD THE EMPlOYEE THAT THERE WAS NO MONTHlY FEE.
iF i WERE YOU i WOUlD GET THE iTOUCH.

the ITouch is tempting.. but now the Iphone can be easily hacked to allow the user on Tmobile and other networks. For like 25 bucks you can get the software to change the network. As for monthly fee... they don't charge because they're not giving you any type of connectivity. It's like a PDA... you can get internet access.. if you find a wifi or.. if you are willing to pay for it.
Iphone is the way to go cuz.. you get the same thing as an Itouch... plus a phone.
