The San Francisco Popfest starts today (imaginary Keenan is already headed south to get there in time for tonight's shows)!!!
The 'fest runs though Sunday, May 24, 2009 and Keenan, amazing imaginary photographer Steve Louie and I will be running around the greater San Francisco area basking in all that fine fine indie-pop.
We're looking forward to most all the bands (ballboy ballboy ballboy), but we put together a podcast of some of the lesser known ones and ones with hit songs we've been listening to on repeat (ahem: Stay Flyin').
You should go listen to it now (and go subscribe to our podcasts on iTunes 'cause we have big plans to make this the summer of podcasts!).
From Thursday, May 21 to Sunday, May 24, 2009, Three Imaginary Girls staffers Liz and Keenan will be running around the San Francisco partaking in all the fun of the San Francisco Popfest. This podcast showcases some of the bands they are most looking forward to seeing while there with

I don't know about you guys, but Sasquatch has never really been my cup of tea. I'm sort of a whiner about huge festivals. But, book a bunch of indie pop bands that I love over a series of smaller venues? I'm there in a quicker than you can shake a tambourine. This Memorial Day Weekend, I'll be headed South instead of East to San Francisco Popfest! I'd basically decided I was going before there was a lineup, because, well, I love popfests. To my surprise the (partial) lineup is even better than I was hoping for!

I've spent the last several holiday seasons attempting to make (or at least thinking about making) a great pop mix of winter/Christmas/holiday songs and I always drop the ball. This year, Indiecater did it for me!
Latest comment by: Jeremy Jensen: "Thanks for the kind words imaginary viva and keenan!"
Planning on being on the East Coast in early November or looking for a reason to pack your bags and head there? The schedule for the New England Popfest has been announced and it's four-packed bills of bands from up and down the East Coast sprinkled with a couple British, Swedish and Nordic cuties.
Latest comment by: Betsy Boston: "Asleep at the wheel in early October, apparently. How'd I miss this?? Alright, who's coming with?"
It's been a while since I've been this excited about an entire bill. Tonight's Crocodile is solid from soup to nuts!
Latest comment by: Ryan: "I wish I were already in Seattle instead of moving there in two weeks because I love A Sunny Day in Glasgow...their album "Scribble Mural Comic Journal" is one of my favorite albums of 2007."
The NYC Popfest folks have announced their 2007 line-up and HOLY COW is it fantabulous! IT MAKES ME WANT TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS!
Behold - I'll post the line-up now and comment more once I gather myself.
Latest comment by: Joseph Riippi: "Holy Myriad Bands Batman! Still, would rather fly home for Sasquatch!. Alas, I have a wedding to go to that weekend in DC. Sigh...."
I just happened upon My Teenage Stride - a Brooklyn band (not to be confused with being an NYC band) that makes it a-ok that it is the first Monday in April and it is really cold outside.
Latest comment by: imaginary dana: "House party in Boston?? Betsy, LOOK ALIVE!!!"
