The Weekday show on KUOW (94.9fm) is spicing things up with the addition of a weekly music set! This Tuesday morning segment will feature a rotating cast of music aficionados, talking about their favorite songs of the moment.
I am excited and quite humbled to have been chosen to visit the KUOW studios tomorrow (Tuesday, May 7) to talk about a handful of the songs I'm currently listening to on repeat (and repeat and repeat)!
You can hear the segment TOMORROW, at 9:20am on 94.9fm, or online at KUOW.org.
What songs do you have on high rotation this blissfully sunny week?

I am beyond honored to be join Rachel Flotard (Visqueen, Fretboard Journal, lady about town) and Lyall Bush (Executive Director of the Northwest Film Forum), along with host Steve Scher on KUOW's Weekday program TODAY around 10.40am.
We are all going to sit around the preverbal water cooler and chat about about a few of the topics making the rounds. The topics are subject to change at a moment's notice - but it looks like we might gab about the Grammys, George W. Bush's hidden painting talent and the state of the film industry.
Fill your mug with something warm and join the convo! It starts at 10.40am today (TUESDAY 2/12) on KUOW.org / 94.9fm.
This chat room segment was recently been made famous by recent participants Sir Mixalot and John Roderick who spent their "chat room" time talking about the gun buyback program here in Seattle (and a couple other lighter subjects like the Super Bowl and Macklemore's success). You can listen to their the segment on the KUOW website, it starts about 36 minutes in.

In case you missed it, you can hear the segment on the KUOW.org website. Can I mention a thousand times over how brillant Steve, Rachel, Lyall and KUOW are?

This year has been chock full of amazing shows and some really fabulous releases. Throughout the year, we've chatted about the songs and bands we are lovin', but the time is nigh for us all to start working on our end of year favorites lists!
To kick start this wonderful spreadsheeting process, I'm going to humbly join Seattle's very own Larry Mizell Jr. of The Stranger / KEXP's Streetsounds / a number of amazing Seattle bands, Beth Warshaw-Duncan of The Vera Project, and KUOW's Steve Scher in an end of the year look at our favorite 2012 releases of the year at the lovely KUOW, 94.9 FM studios TODAY at 9:30am.
It's been hard, but I've narrowed down my list to a handful of songs to share on the radio this morning. What bands and songs and albums are on your Favorites of 2012 lists?
Join the conversation by emailing the Weekday show at weekday@kuow.org, or phoning in at (206) 543-5869.

The weather has finally started to cooperate and prove it still has a sunny side. All this sun-infused summer bliss means two things:
1. It's time to work on our summer music mix tapes
2. The Capitol Hill Block Party is right around the corner, and we all had better start prepping!
This Thursday, June 28th around 10.20am, I'm going to be on KOUW / 94.9FM's Weekday show with Larry Mizell Jr. (KEXP and master of most rad Seattle music things) and Beth (Vera Project) to talk about those two very important things.
What is your "Summer 2012 Song?"
Are you going the way of Best Coast's "The Only Place" or is there something from the new Grimes album that is on repeat as you drink in the sun's rays? Right now, besides a lot of sparkly British indie-pop (Tigercats! The School!), I've got the new Dent May, The Features, and Gospel Music in high rotation.
My head is spinning as I peruse the Capitol Hill Block Party day by day schedule. For example, are the Sunday line-up fates really asking us to choose between missing the end of Neko Case's set (who starts at 7:45pm on the main stage) and the beginning of Grand Archives (who start at 8:30pm on the Barboza stage)? Or the end of Grand Archives and the beginning of Porcelain Raft (who start at 9pm back on the main stage)?
Who are you most excited about who's on this year's Capitol Hill Block Party schedule?
Let's all get summer style!

With all the holiday joy that fills the month of December, comes the spreadsheet madness of end of year "Best of" list tabulations. I must admit I've been distracted by sparkly things and holiday party excitement the last couple weeks, so I really need to step up my subjective calculations by next Wednesday because...
On Wednesday, December 14th, I'll humbly join Seattle's very own Larry Mizell Jr. of The Stranger / KEXP's Streetsounds / a number of amazing Seattle bands, Josh Powell, Vera Project Program Director, and KUOW's Steve Scher in an end of the year look at our favorite releases of the year at the lovely KUOW, 94.9 FM studios from 9am-10am.
I have a few ideas of what is going to be at the top (and bottom) of my list... but I'm sure I've missed something. What does your Favorites of 2011 list look like?

I should totally make a Spotify best of list. Not sure when I could do the Turntable thing, but it sounds like an awesome idea!

I love this time of year. Besides the {sometimes forced} joyous disposition of folks and my annual fancy birthday breakfast {on December 24 for those keeping track}, we all get to ruminate on the best albums and songs of the year for hours on end.

Summertime brings with it all kinds of lovely things: lazy all day BBQs, iced drinks aplenty, and songs that mark {and in most cases fuel} all the sun-filled good times.
On Friday {July 23} from 9am-10am, I get to talk about *my* most notable summer songs of the moment on KOUW's Weekday show from 9am-10am with host Steve Scher and fellow guests Josh Powell {Vera Project Programming Co-Director} and Larry Mizell Jr. {wordsmith at The Stranger, Raindrop Hustla, KEXP DJ, and Commissioner, Seattle Music Commission}. Even though I've met all those dudes a few times already, I'm still in awe that I get to talk tunes with them.
I've gathered a list of seven songs to take, and by 8.45am on Friday I have to whittle them down to three selections. It's proving to be a difficult task. What are your slam dunk favorite summer songs... either by bands who are from Seattle or are coming to town? Tell the class all about them!
If you're near a radio or computer Friday morning, tune into KUOW, 94.9 FM from 9a-10a! For those outside of Seattle, you can listen online.
And if you want, email the station (weekday@kuow.org) or call in and let us know your thoughts on what you're going to go see and what your summer soundtrack song is. The phone number is 206.543.KUOW (800.289.KUOW).

I guessing that you, like those of us at imaginary headquarters, have spent the last few weeks calculating your favorites of the year... and possibly the decade. It's fun, it's grueling, and it all ends with a really good mix tape.

Latest comment by: Peter Wale: "Hi Liz, I know you're interested in what's being hatched in Seattle with respect to new music. I don't know, but maybe you'd like to check out a few songs you've not heard before, songs written by this writer. If so, they are under Room 7 on the website ...
If you're near a radio or computer this morning, tune into KUOW, 94.9 FM from 9a-10a!

I'm slightly nervous but really excited to join Seattle tastemakers Larry Mizell Jr. of The Stranger and Josh Powell, Vera Project Programming Co-Director in the sure-to-be-lively discussion about the songs and festivals of summer 2009. To prepare, I've gathered a couple of my favorite summer 2009 songs to add to the mix (if there's time) and I've got two huge mugs of tea brewing.
Latest comment by: Chelsea Werner: "I managed to catch a good amount of it and i really liked your picks. Still Flyin' and HAMMJAMM made my morning at my day job in a room without windows on a gorgeous day... Also, the callers were cracking me up. Way to go!"
It's the DIY movement, which has so lowered the barriers to entry for music creation, distribution, and even criticism, that has differentiated the Seattle sound of today by propagating a sense of independence and individuality.
