Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Holy fucking shit, you guys. This is gonna be good.

As we all know, in this world of "new music" there are albums and then there are albums. Songs and artists make our top tens at year's end, things we like filter in on a near-weekly basis, the play counts add up in our iTunes and we drop bits and bobs onto playlists and mixes for our friends. "Here, this is good," we say. "Have you heard these guys? Buy this. Take this in." But in that literal sea of music we are inundated with, month in and month out, there are those albums that rise to the top: There's Nothing Wrong With Love by Built to Spill, Meadowlands by the Wrens, Set List by the Frames. Transatlanticism. When I Pretend to Fall. They are, dare we say, the true Indie Rock… classics. Standbys. New forever-favorites from this past decade. And These Four Walls, the last / first album from We Were Promised Jetpacks — while a little newer and younger than the rest — is well on the way to becoming one of those albums.

That said, here's the kicker: based on everything we've heard so far, the new We Were Promised Jetpacks album might just trump their last effort. In The Pit Of The Stomach {which is streaming over at The AV Club, ps} is out — today! — and rather than hook it up and stream, we strongly suggest you use the streaming album to get a little taste, and then march yourself over to your closest independent music store and pick up a physical copy. You're going to need it for when you play it seven hundred times over, in your house and your car and for your friends at work. It might very well be a contender for your 2011 best-ofs.
