Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

I'm struggling with where Weezer is in their career. The last couple albums have mostly passed me by without an impression, save for the mostly awful singles the band released. The newest single, "Pork and Beans," is another example of a song full of the signature Weezer sound — but lacking the wit of the band's earlier material. I think they've jumped the shark about three times already, at least…

That said, the new video is freaking hilarious. It amalgamates oodles of pop-culture references, both kitsch and clever. We're talking ironic mustaches, Chris "Leave Britney Alone!" Crocker, spoofs on viral videos replete with cameos (igDana, take note: "Omigod, shoes!" Kelly is in there), smarty-pants Ms. Teen South Carolina– with "Pork and Beans"  interwoven to all.

I still don't really love the song, but this gave me a chuckle. Share the laugh.
