A few years ago I read the book The Dirt, which is the oral history of Motley Crue and it was really one of the most fascinating rock memoirs I've ever read. I've even given it as Christmas as birthday presents. It reminded me of the line from This is Spinal Tap that "as long as there's sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll" – but it was a great portrait of a band living what we think is the rock and roll lifestyle.

Crue's bassist Nikki Sixx followed up that with his own memoir, The Heroin Diaries which was just re-released on paperback and is:

The Heroin Diaries is a collection of diary entries written between Christmas of 1986 and Christmas of 1987 chronicling Sixx's wild lifestyle, drug addiction, descent into paranoia and depression, and his subsequent recovery. The book  includes a whole bunch of amazing black-and-white photographs, lyrics, random thoughts and artwork.

Sixx also started his own band, Sixx: AM, whose debut album serves as the soundtrack to the best-selling book.
