One of my absolute favorite Northwest institutions is throwing a big party this Saturday afternoon/evening and it sounds like an amazing time. Here are the details from the press release, kindly forwarded to me by Vain staffer/TIG contributor/featured artist/dear friend Sarah Jurado:
In collaboration with Seattle-based music blog Kingblind.com, VAIN is proud to present ROCKTOBER: A Tribute to Rock & Roll, a visual art show featuring music-driven, rock-inspired works. The group show will feature graphic design, photography, and jewelry from local and national artists–including:
• The electric live show photography of Frank Mullen of Matteblack
• Poster designs by graphic designer and former Seattleite Andrio Abero of 33rpm
• "Pause," a series of quiet images of rare moments of performers in repose by Seattle photographer Sarah Joann Murphy.ROCKTOBER will also showcase the talented work of artists Michael Lane andAnouk Rawkson, as well as Badass Bunny and Metalwing Jewelry, and VAIN's staple collection of vintage vinyl and high thrift. While the collection on view will be influenced by Rock & Roll, the culmination and expression of each piece and artist will be distinct.
The opening reception for ROCKTOBER will be held a VAIN's Art Gallery space adjacent to its downtown salon on Saturday, October 18th from 3 to 8 p.m. VAIN hairstylists will be offering free 5-minute rockstar updos during the event, and Guitar Hero gaming will be available starting at 6pm for those who wish to shred. A 15% discount will be offered on all items in VAIN's boutique throughout the evening.
I've been getting my hair cut at Vain for almost five years and recommend that place so often that my closest friends think I may be on their payroll. I'm not, just always treated wonderfully and leave feeling like I look great. And, from reading the above, it sounds like they also know how to throw a party.
