Yesterday the City Council in Lubbock, Texas—Buddy Holly's birthplace—voted 6-0 to change the names of the The Walk of Fame and Buddy Holly Terrace back to the West Texas Hall of Fame and West Texas Terrace.
Buddy Holly's widow, Maria Elena Holly, had been seeking a licensing agreement and name usage fees for the two sites.
Dan Burns, president of Civic Lubbock (a nonprofit group created by the city of Lubbock in 1956) estimated the payment could have been as high as $10,000 a year.
What do you think? Is Maria protecting her late husband's name or is she being a stick in the mud?
