Drag Me to Hell: My recommendation for a whole lotta fun. Raimi channels his Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness roots with this one – a dash of slapstick coupled with a bunch of GROSSNESS (flies, vomit, blood, black fluids, you name it). Alison Lohman plays Christine Brown, a loan officer who denies a (sweet?) old lady one last chance at keeping her home in order to get ahead in her career. Unfortunately, said lady is actually a mean ole’ Gypsy, and she promptly curses Ms. Brown to be “dragged to hell” by one nasty demon. Is it dumb? Hell yeah. Do you care at all about the lead character? Hell no. But is a blast to watch and yell stuff at the screen? Yes, yes, yes. Oh, and Justin Long is just as adorable as always as her clueless boyfriend. Go forth and rent:

The (original!) Stepfather: I can’t tell you how mad it makes me that the preview for the remake of this 1987 classic not only gives away EVERYTHING – it reveals the sweetest line of the whole movie – the line that made me should OMGOMGOOMG! when I saw this version starring Terry O’Quinn (John Locke on Lost) as the big bad. But – then I watched the trailer for this one again and realized they do pretty much the same thing. :/ Basically, a single mom & her teenage daughter (80s babe Jill Schoelen) end up with a new husband & Stepdad and he’s a little…different, you know, in the murdering kind of way. In my opinion, this is as creep-tastic now as it was when I was a teen:

Gnaw: Haven’t seen this – but I’d be willing to give it a go. Good Cannibal movies are hard to find, and this looks like it would at least be entertaining in a silly way if not a scary one. English countryside, remote cottage, vacationing victims – check. The fact that it’s not made in the USA doesn’t hurt, and I appreciate the apparent “fattening up the lambs for slaughter” scene shown in the trailer:
