Have you heard about Linda Carlin? She's a Seattle resident who has decided that for two weeks she's going to carry around all of her non-recycleable trash in a backpack around with her to raise awareness about how much garbage the average American throws into landfills. So far in her pack (which she had to upgrade to a bigger bag part way through the project) she has used dental floss, Q-tips, a prescription bottle, dryer lint, and a pen that exploded in her purse. There's packaging from a store purchase, caps from plastic bottles, plastic wrap and a plastic foam egg carton.
She's also been calling companies to urge them to use more environmentally friendly packaging.
