Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Good Kisser is a fresh, sexy perspective on discovering more about yourself, and an exploration of how things aren’t always what they seem.

From the moment we meet Jenna (Kari Alison Hodge) and her girlfriend Kate (Rachel Paulson), we know something’s not quite right in their relationship. Kate has gotten Jenna to — just barely — agree to a threesome with another woman, Mia. Although Jenna is initially very nervous, Mia puts her at ease immediately and the threesome moves forward as planned … with some very unexpected outcomes.

All three actresses are phenomenally convincing here, and I applaud being able to see lesbian romance and sex through a female gaze (HELLO YES WE NEED MORE OF THIS). Kisser’s director and writer Wendy Jo Carlton also keeps you guessing about which way things are going to go through the end, and then leaves you with a hopeful question mark.

{Good Kisser screens at SIFF Friday, May 17, 7pm at SIFF Cinema Uptown, and again on Saturday, May 18, 1:30pm at AMC Pacific Place. Director, cast, and producers are scheduled to attend both screenings}
