Mega thanks to the show gods above for bringing Nana Grizol (my favorite band of 2008… and likely beyond) to Seattle – where they will be performing this Thursday (2/19) at the Vera Project (it's all ages) with The Music Tapes and Brian Dewan.
A year into my love affair with NG and I still haven't been able to pick a favorite song from the album Love It Love It. Have you given Nana Grizol a listen yet? If not, head over to the Nana Grizol MySpace page to listen to some songs (I recommend all of them).
Reasons I love them so and think you will to:
- Nana Grizol's jangly, trumpet-infested perfect-haphazard sing-alongs bring to mind Neutral Milk Hotel and the New Bad Things with Pavement quirk sprinkled on top.
- The songs on Love It Love It spew alt-folky quivering preachiness that Conor Oberst or Will Sheff (Okkervil River) could flawlessly karaoke.
- Love It! Love It! is going to rank with In the Aeroplane over the Sea as an album that will be referenced as a tried and true work.
And then there's this recent interview I just stumbled across. How cute is Nana G Theo?
If you need *even more* convincing to get you to join me at the Vera Project this Thursday, watch this video of a show last May. It's a bunch of some of my favorite NG songs with the band all crushed and dancing on a makeshift stage in the most charming of ways. And that TUBA!
