It’s the weekend before Christmas which means holiday party season has kicked into high gear. This weekend there are so many shows to choose from {it’s like a mistletoe’d SXSW or something} that my eggnog’d head is spinning. Might we suggest:
***Friday, December 18***
BOAT / The Exploding High Fives / Concours d’Elegance at the Sunset Tavern
A holiday party with BOAT? I’ll take that! Also on the bill is The Exploding High Fives who have a song “Since You’re Not Here for Christmas” on their myspace which is Ben Folds cute and catchy. This confirms I’ll be in Ballard tonight for this show.
The Head & The Heart / Star Lake Drownings / Your Favorite Book at Conor Byrne
As you may know, Your Favorite Book is one of my favorite Seattle performers. Star Lake Drownings killed it at hour Holiday show last year. Also, YFB shows are rare, so I’m hoping to catch a wee bit of this show tonight.
The Maldives / Hey Marseilles / Champagne Champagne / Goldfinch at Neumo’s
A line up like this is *not* to be missed. It’s a known fact that all of the bands on this bill top Seattle’s best list. A couple shots of Champagne Champagne always makes the holidays better. Besides that, I can’t imagine what Hey Marseilles is going to whip up to celebrate the season. Hearts are going to melt for sure!
No Fi Soul Rebellion / Lamborghiniz / Sex Panther / 1-2-1-2 at Comet
No Fi Soul Rebellion released one of my favorite albums this year. I highly recommend those of you in Capital Hill work the system and try to hit Neumo’s and The Comet over-achiever stylee.
Gabe Mintz / Ben Harwood / Lesli Wood at the Blue Moon
ChrisB is headed to the Blue Moon for the Back Beat holiday party filled up with a very special solo side-project bill. Read all about what ChrisB has to say about it.
***Saturday, December 19, 2009***
Rosie Thomas / Josh Ottum at Town Hall
It’s always a Very Rosie Christmas… and this all ages one is going to be full of hilarity and sing along tunes.
Schoolyard Heroes / These Arms Are Snakes / Kane Hodder / Siren Sister at El Corazon
An all ages good-bye to Schoolyard Heroes and Kane Hodder (gathering the original KH line-up}… sadness… but total rock, must-see send off for these important Seattle bands.
“7th Annual Musicares Benefit” – Jennie & The Bets/Kim Virant/The Maldives/Dept Of Energy/Eugene Wendell & The Demon Rind/Jet Sparks/Carrie Akre/Jody Watts/Rick Freil/Jeff Fielder/The Tripwires/70 Proof/Sean Bates, Tractor
It’s a benefit show – and there’s no more gratifying way to spend a holiday evening than raising funds for charity.
And of course we think the one must-see show ahead of us is on Wednesday, December 23rd at Chop Suey, the Imaginary Winter Holiday Spectacular. It’s also a benefit for local charity Solid Ground and chock full of our favorite things of the holiday season: indie rock Santa John Roderick, huge raffle prizes and an amazing line-up.
