Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

I found out about this on Friday but didn’t post anything on it until now just because I wanted to enjoy living in denial over the weekend.

For the past several months I’ve felt like I’ve been Be Your Own Pet’s de facto publicist; the band has been the subject of five TIG blog posts and all five posts were written by me. I’ve been obsessed with the band’s latest album Get Awkward – recommending it to anyone who will listen and most who won’t. It’s a fun, punk record from beginning to end.

Of course, I was disappointed to read a MySpace bulletin on Friday that said:

To all of our fans,

We are sad to bring you the news that our upcoming shows in the UK (dates below) are going to be our last as a band. We thank you for all your love and support these past few years – its been a blast but the time has come for the 4 of us to go our separate ways.

22 August: Reading Festival – Reading, UK
23 August: Leeds Festival – West Yorkshire, UK
25 August: Carling Academy 2 – Liverpool, UK
26 August: Dingwalls – London, UK

I don’t know what prompted this, problems with their label or they just didn’t feel like continuing the band or whatnot. I’m curious as to what was the impetous for the breakup, but this will probably be my last post on the band.

If anyone is lucky enough to live in the UK, I highly recommend checking out the above shows, if possible. In the meantime, here’s the video for their song “The Kelly Affair”:
