Maybe it's the seven year old kid who watched nothing but old Japanese cartoons (Speed Racer, Force Five, Starblazers, Tran-Zor-Z, Robotech, etc.) but when I read that the guys who did The Matrix are making a film version of Speed Racer, I got excited.

Of course, my dream that Johnny Depp would play Racer X may not come true, but Christina Ricci as Trixie and John Goodman as Pops seems pretty good so far. I'm pretty unfamiliar with Emile Hirsch, the actor who will be Speed, but his pics on the IMDB make it seem like it could work. As long as they don't make it into the potential travesty that, oh, let's say this summer's Transformers may be, I'll be pleased.
