Imaginary DVD Picks: ridiculous action, a documentary on the worst movie ever, and a classic thriller

Predators: This movie was actually a lot more fun than I anticipated, actually so much so that I’m thinking about watching it again. This 23-years-later sequel to the original Predator packs as much loud gun play and explosions in as you would expect, plus over-the-top caricatures, Danny freakin’ Trejo, a tough gun-totin’ babe, and Laurence Fishburne doing his impression of Marlon Brando. It’s the perfect “beers & friends” movie night selection.

Best Worst Movie: I don’t think you could pay me enough money to watch Troll 2 again, but I’d love to see this documentary so I could try to piece together how in the hell something like it got made. The Director of the documentary starred in the film as a child, so it’s obviously haunted him since 1989 also. This has got to be great, right?

Night of the Hunter Criterion Edition: I thought Robert Mitchum was super scary in the original Cape Fear UNTIL I saw him in this movie. Mitchum nails it as a religious fanatic/serial killer who tricks the widow of his old cellmate into marrying him, and then continually threatens her kids to learn where their dad stashed the money. It gives me the wigs, but it’s really really really really good, so I’m excited they’ve finally released the Criterion DVD.
