OK, everyone knows that I backed Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary but I'm not one of those people that threatened to bolt and vote for John McCain if I didn't get my way. In fact, I legitimately worried that my fellow voters would not follow suit and back Barack Obama in the general election.
The primary was pretty bitter and I took a lot of things personally, but I've always voted for Democrats and saw no reason not to this time either.
John McCain enlisted his friend Joe Lieberman to try to bring as many Democrats to the McCain camp as possible. Sure, McCain is a zealot for the Iraq War, anti-choice, in favor of off-shore oil drilling, etc… but I really thought defections could be a legitimate issue for Obama.
Then I read Wonkette this morning and saw that amongst McCain's "Prominent Democrats" was the guy pictured above. See, his wife was having an affair with the Governor of West Virginia in 2003 and he ran against the philandering guv to antagonize him throughout the campaign. But to the McCain camp, running for state-wide office is good enough. Frye was even mocked on "The Daily Show" (I would embed it if I can but you'll just have to follow the link to Wonkette but trust me, it's worth it).
According to the Charleston Gazette:
Jeff Sadoski, a spokesman for the national McCain campaign, said Monday, “This is a list of people who are known in different states, as Democrats or independents. They include elected officers and leaders in the Democratic Party. They were prominent Democrats.”
Sadowski said Frye was “someone who has run statewide as a Democrat.”
Asked how the McCain campaign chose people to put on the list of “prominent” supporters, Sadowski said, “We did research. We reviewed them.”
I know the McCain campaign just yesterday acknowledged the seventy-something Senator is "aware of the Internet" but isn't there at least one person on board that has used Google before?
On a related note, Obama supporters don't have to worry about an Obama/Clinton ticket anymore.
