Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

While hometown fans of Seattle five-piece Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band wait for their favorite folky, jazzy, mathy collective to return and play Neumos this Sunday night, Dec. 7, tonight they are rocking the Independent with the MUST SEE LIVE Blitzen Trapper (!!) down in San Francisco.

As to be expected, on their My Space page they have created another knee-slapping Public Service Announcement about it. (That's how they garnered so many fans, at least a little bit, by subverting the PSA format for fun. Brilliant!)

Born from algebra-angst-pop In Praise Of Folly, adding among other players a thirteen year old drummer named Marshall (!!!), Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band has been getting sweet press from The Stranger and Alternative Press (you got them both, that's pretty awe-inspiring, considering the dualing aesthetics), support from KEXP, and has signed with Dead Oceans (hurray, Ecangelicals!) and are going to be recording with the assistance of the mighty Scott Colburn for a spring 2009 release.

The jaunt ends early next week on December 9 at the Doug Fir in Portland. I have the feeling that the show with BT will draw many down to Oregon to see them cap it off, just to experience the band one more time right away.
