Three Imaginary Films to see: hearting NY, a fashionable Audrey Tatou, and my favorite Danny Boyle film
New York I Love You @ the Guild 45th and the Meridian: Next to Where the Wild Things Are (which I also HIGHLY recommend you go see!), this is my 2nd most anticipated film for ’09. Paris, je t’aime is one of my favorite movies–a collection of shorts about love from different directors set in Paris. I’ve been waiting for the New York version to come out FOREVER and it’s finally here! 11 short films about love in NY–among the directors: Natalie Portman (yayyyyy!), Mira Nair and…Brett Ratner? What the WHAT! It’s cool, I’ll reserve judgment on his until I see it:

Coco Before Chanel (Coco avant Chanel) @ the Harvard Exit: French darling Audrey Tatou plays Coco Chanel, chronicling her life pre-fashion Icon. Did you know Coco was a singer and had a sugar daddy? Because, um. I sure didn’t. Anyway, it looks beautiful, romantic and heart-breaking (I guess there’s something about clothes or whatever too), so I’m there:

Shallow Grave @ Central Cinema: While I love pretty much anything Danny Boyle directs, this bleak 1994 thriller is a stand-out favorite. Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston and Kerry Fox play somewhat elitest roommates and best friends who recruit a 4th flat mate to save on rent, then shortly discover he’s OD’d on heroin and left a bag full of millions for the taking. The tension mounts once they have to “dispose” of the body, and trust begins to erode. Seriously entertaining and just fantastic all around (I apologize for the crap quality of this video):
