Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

If you’re like me, you’ve been outdoors, finally enjoying those sun soaked activities you’ve been waiting patiently for ALL YEAR. Maybe also like me, you’ve hugged your old pal the sun a little too hard. Portions of your skin have ripened to the color of a fresh raspberry. Well rest up baby and lather yourself in aloe ‘cause the Summer is JUST GETTING STARTED. This weekend is Capitol Hill Block Party, and it’s gonna be a scorcher.

**FRIDAY**

SOL | 6:00pm | Main

SOL, aka Solzilla, is a man who needs no introduction. He’s one of the greatest live performers Seattle has to offer and consistently gives back to his community, helping budding hip-hop artists achieve their dreams on stage. His sets are an absolute blast and I promise you, ya don’t want to miss him!

Kelly Lee Owens | 8:15pm | Vera

Welsh artist Kelly Lee Owens’ dark electronic tracks are simultaneously eerie and soothing. Her voice immediately captures your attention, softly lilting over consistently pounding dance beats. Warning: This set may find you dancing with your eyes closed.

NAVVI | 11:15pm | Neumos

Seattle electronic duo NAVVI is nothing short of entrancing. If their previous record is any indication, they’re bound to explode later this year when their second full length, ULTRA is released. They debuted a few new tracks earlier this year at Upstream so cross your fingers that we’ll get to hear a few.

**SATURDAY**

TERMINATor | 4:45pm | Cha Cha

A band so new, there’s hardly any video of them on the internet! TERMINATor is the brainchild of Lauren Rodriguez, Veronica Dye, and Albie. They’ll have you swimming in waves of psych rock and maybe even a few flute solos if you’re lucky. Based off their instagram, you’re bound to have a blast so COME ROCK WITH THEM IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.

Falon Sierra | 6:45pm | Barboza

After wowing the audience at last year’s Sound Off! competition, Falon Sierra is truly growing into her gorgeous voice and pushing herself to new heights. Her reverberating R&B will ease you into the evening and keep you wanting more.

Great Grandpa | 10:00pm | Vera

Grungy 90’s pop harmonies guarantee Great Grandpa is something you’ll want to see this weekend. Their record, Plastic Cough, released earlier this year, is full of Summer drenched songs you’ll want to sway to.

**SUNDAY**

Bully | 4:00pm | Main

Bully is nothing short of the ULTIMATE SUMMER BAND you’ll want to swing your hair to. Lose your damn mind over at the Main Stage as their Pavement-y licks and screachingly sweet vocals squeeze you into a blissful state. Yea I know this song is kinda old, but I LOVE IT SO MUCH:

Unknown Mortal Orchestra | 6:30pm | Main

Portland’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra creates funky psychedelic R&B reminiscent of Stevie Wonder combined with all the best parts of yacht rock. Fans of the newest Thundercat record won’t want to miss this! Their new record Sex & Food, is the perfect soundtrack to any chilled out Summer backyard BBQ.

TR/ST | 7:30pm | Vera

I’ve never seen TR/ST live, and I can’t wait for this dark electronic dance inducing set. The sun will still be out, but I have a feeling this will be the set to leave you sweaty, dancing, and screaming for more.

Single day, 2 day and 3 day passes are still available at capitolhillblockparty.com. I’ll see you out there, baking in the streets!
