Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Our friends at Easy Street and Sonic Boom have put plans in place to make this the best Record Store Day Seattle has ever seen.

I'm still finalizing my list of things I want to pick up on what could be my biggest shopping day of the year and both stores have made it doubly hard to pare things down. There's a bunch of labels releasing rare and limited edition Record Store Day 7"s and re-releasing sup'd up favorites (a list of some of the titles here) to get us drooling which includes (but is certainly not limited to):

Flaming Lips and Black Keys, Flight of the Conchords, Guided by Voices, Iron & Wine, Jenny Lewis and Elvis Costello, Jesus Lizard, Leonard Cohen, My Morning Jacket, Neil Young, Pavement, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Silversun Pickups, Sonic Youth and Beck, Sonic Youth and Jay Reatard, Decemberists, Smiths, Tom Waits, Vetiver, Wilco, and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

Beyond that each local Seattle indie record store has a list of reasons we need to stop by each of the on Saturday (April 18).

EASY STREET
Both Easy Street locations will be offering 20% off all non-sale and Record Store Day exclusive items all day long. Also they are hosting a bunch of in-store performances to keep us dancing while we walk the aisles:

Queen Anne
3pm Dex Romweber Duo
5pm Moondoggies
7:30 pm Sweet Water

West Seattle
Special RSD After Hours Show – 21+ $5
9:30pm Wolves In The Throne Room

SONIC BOOM
Sonic Boom will have a list printed up for shoppers to pick up as they enter the store with a list of all the cool stuff they have gathered for Record Store Day to help target their cruising. There will be a sidewalk sale and some surprise freebees.

Folks should make sure to visit both Sonic Booms to take advantage of the silk screening stations. Take your blank shirt, poster paper or tote bag (or whathaveyou) to both locations to get both sides of the commemorative RSD locket design printed onto whatever you bring in.  It's free but all screenprinting donations will fund a scholarship to the Seattle School of Rock. Also, 10% of gross sales will be donated to the Seattle City School’s Music Program.

If you hit the Ballard store, you can show your Sonic Boom receipt at nearby Ballard shops and get a discount on your purchase there (Mmmm… free baby cupcake).

To provide a great soundtrack to your shopping trip, Sonic Boom stores will also have some in-store performances:

CAPITOL HILL

2pm Cheryl Waters – KEXP (DJ Set)
3pm Telekinesis
5pm DJ El Torro (DJ Set)
