Going the Distance: Surprising, funny, charming—and even not so predictable, this film explores the problems and hilarity of long-distance relationships, and how sometimes love might not be enough. A strong supporting cast boosts the already impossible-not-to-awww-over leads, and it’s chock-full of pop culture references that make me smile.

Cairo Time: More of a “finding yourself” tale than the “will they or won’t they” press it received, this film focuses on journalist Juliette Grant who’s waiting for her husband in Cairo. As she explores the city with smoldering guide Tareq, both of them realize there might be something more than friendship happening. Patricia Clarkson’s Juliette makes you love her almost immediately, and this film has a quiet brilliance that makes me feel like crying and laughing at the same time – pretty much the same way I felt at the end of Lost in Translation.
