Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Happy Halloween weekend! It’s no secret that I LOVE this time of year (in fact, I’m typing in my Zombie costume right now, trying not to get blood all over the keyboard). There’s nothing better than parking on the couch with your favorite scary movies and watchin’ at home but, there’s also a few options in case you feel like leaving the house.

Central Cinema is still offering up some awesomeness even though they had to cancel their annual Homemade Horror Contest due to lack of entries (sad!). Tonight at 7pm and 9:30pm, you can see Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive (AKA Braindead), the movie famous for using 300 liters (or 79 gallons, if you prefer) of fake, syrupy blood during the final scene. It’s completely campy, over-the-top ridiculous and the Sumatran Rat Monkey – the cause of the Zombie-ism – cracks me up every single time I watch it.

And on Halloween night (+ Sunday Nov. 1st ) at 7pm, Central Cinema is doing the raddest thing EVER: The Lost Boys Quote-A-Long! (Dear younger people, just in case you don’t know: The Lost Boys is like the Twilight of my generation, except MORE AWESOME because of the Frog Brothers). “How do you like those maggots, Michael?”

Over at The Egyptian this weekend (starts today at 1:30pm), they’re playing Von Trier’s controversial Antichrist. This thing has gotten such a mixture of good and bad reviews that I’m totally confused about it, but all I know is, mutilated genitals and talking woodland creatures or non, I’m going to see it!

For their midnight film both Friday and Saturday, the Egyptian is also playing one of the best vampire movies EVER: Let the Right In. The creepy Swedish film about a child vamp who becomes BFF with another (human) misfit. It’s touching and OMGWTFARRRGH at the same time.
