Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Since SIFF is over and I couldn’t find a way to make attending that and STIFF work with my schedule, I’ve been obsessively pouring over the NWFF page and other local theater listings to plan what I need to get out and see next.

Considering that 1) Today’s DVD releases aren’t thrilling me; 2) I know what I DO NOT need to see and it involves a bunch of dudes, Vegas, and a baby – here’s what I think looks good (and they just happen to all be documentaries…hmm).

Tonight, Tuesday, June 16, NWFF’s got two:

Know Your Mushrooms at 7pm
A trippy mushroom hunt with a soundtrack by the Flaming Lips – I heard a lot of good buzz about this from SIFF-goers (as it played there too). Seems like you’d have to be in the right frame of mind for this one, but sounds interesting!

In a Dream at 7pm or 9pm
A documentary about a guy who’s so obsessed with creating 50,000 square foot mosaic murals in south Philadelphia that he doesn’t notice his family crumbling around him. In the mood for a weeper? This looks like one:

Over at the Varsity, they’re playing Anvil! The Story of Anvil at 9:20pm. This is a truly great documentary about two guys who have been together for 30 years because they heart the crap out of playing Metal – and sadly, success is always just out of reach.

People, I cannot express to you how much I love, love, LOVE this movie. Seriously. No matter how many comparisons to This is Spinal Tap you hear about this: it is different, and in some ways, better. It’s great. Go see it.
