Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

Tonight is a great night for shows in town: Brit pop rockers the Kooks are at the Croc, !!! (!!!) at Neumo's, but the Arctic Monkeys get my recommendation, if merely on points.

The Arctic Monkey's was last year's break-through band, and for good reason; their breakthrough album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not catchy, upbeat rock songs you could sing along or dance to. featured. Songs like "Fake Tales of San Francisco" and "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" were not just great songs; they were call-and-response anthemsl.

The band is in town to promote their latest album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, which was released last week (and my copy is still shrink-wrapped), but if it is anything like its predecessor, it will be full of solid, unpretentious rock and roll.

I have yet to see the Arctic Monkeys live, and tragically this one went on sale and sold out while I was in Austin for SXSW. My hunch is none of you lucky show-goers will be disappointed.
