Three Imaginary Girls

Willoughby

Gus Seyffert’s subtle, somewhat lackadaisical falsetto and well-above-average compositional abilities have begun to return the favor. The man behind L.A. act Willoughby has been able to throw together a very favorable West Coast showing – an art form unto itself these days – slated for mid-May. The venue name-dropping begins immediately, with a kick-off at Hotel Café opening for Western States Motel, followed by a stop at The Independent with Langhorne Slim. Visits to the KEXP and Indie 101.3 studios don’t hurt the tour track record either.

All the mileage is in support of I Know What You’re Up To, a 13-track effort written, produced, and performed by Seyffert. It's easy listening for the indie generation, with unhurried vocals (“Dust Bunnies”), brilliantly melodic instrumentation (“Wonder”), and some very smart production that layers everything evenly. Duets and octave jumps complement the singer/songwriter image, as does the storyteller attitude.

Few on the Left Coast will be passed over, and even fewer will be disappointed.
