Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

As part of the Capitol Hill Block Party festivities, sponsors Esurance are sponsoring a battle of the bands of sorts, called the Block Star Contest. The lucky winner not only gets to play the main stage at the CHBP, but also gets to have their song featured in a national Esurance commercial (presumably they're paying royalties to said band, I hope), as well as a gaggle of other perks (a rehearsal PA, a Verizon "Chocolate" Phone, an interview and live performance on 90.3 KEXP's Audioassis, an interview and live performance on 107.7 The End, a feature in The Stranger's Line Out, yadda yadda.)

The eight finalists have been announced, and the competition goes down this Friday, June 15th at the Vera Project. The show is all-ages and free, it starts at 7:30, and the competitors are…

  • Grynch
  • Lonely Forest
  • Neezie Pleaze
  • Optimus Rhyme
  • PWRFL Power
  • Skullbot
  • Speaker Speaker
  • The Sutures

Any thoughts on who's gonna win? I haven't heard all the bands on that bill yet, but there's certainly loads of talent and many genres recommended. My spidey sense says this might be just the vehicle the Sutures need to bust outta relative anonymity and into the spotlight that stellar voice of hers deserves… thoughts?
