Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

When I think of Belle & Sebastian I don't necessarily think of disco grooves, but this song makes a foray into sleazy synth moves. They glide around this track, bringing sunshine with their choral pop vocals, the essence of breezy elation. The Life Pursuit is a first-rate album, and "Song for Sunshine" proves that in its sublime perfection. Even if you don't like the cutesy, and sometimes somber, approach of Belle & Sebastian, this song will prove to be hard to resist. With revelatory lyrics like…

Honey'd sweet apples, they're rotting away
Millions of people never start in the race
There's stuff on out plates that has not been alive
Someone else pays the real price of my cheap flight life

…how can you deny the charm of Belle & Sebastian?
