Three Imaginary Girls

Seattle's Indie-Pop Press – Music Reviews, Film Reviews, and Big Fun

As many of you know, I am all knocked up. As of this fine Monday morning, I am officially three days past my official due date. While this is all really normal (most first-timers like me are late), the anticipation is something crazy!

To help me pass the time before my not-so-imaginary girl arrives, I've been thinking of songs along these themes: Waiting. Expectancy. Anticipation. Patience. Impatience. So far, all the tunes I can think of are Greatest Hits of the 70s and 80s (perhaps decades marked by a sense of waiting?). Here are a few I've thought of….

"The Waiting" by Tom Petty

"Baby you're the only one that's ever known how
To make me wanna live like I wanna live now
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part."

"Anticipation" by Carly Simon

"Patiently" by Journey

WOW, you need to watch this one just for the crazy ass late 70s fashions. And to hear Steve Perry sing like a choir boy.

(Note: I chose this song instead of "Patience" by Guns and Roses because I've had that song ruined by too many karaoke nights.)

"I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz

I realize this one was a stretch.

"(Are You) the One I've Been Waiting For" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Ahh, so lovely. Nothing better than The Boatman's Call.

"Wait" by Death Cab for Cutie (covering Secret Stars)

And of course, the all-too-perfect "Waiting for a Girl Like You" by Foreigner:

Can you think of any better songs? Preferably from this decade? If so, please feel free to share them in the comments below.

And please, wish me luck (and labor!!).
